Use of by-products with regard to sustainable development

Abstract

Sustainable development in agriculture requires responsible thinking and acting towards present and future needs and realities. Present-day needs must be met in such a manner that future generations will also be able to satisfy their needs (Brundlandt Commission, 1987). In the context of sustainability in animal production the use of by-products derived from food production in animal feeding is important for completing cycles of biological materials. In the processing of food for human consumption a significant percentage of by-products is unavoidable. Appropriate methods of processing provide high value components for animal feeding.

  Zusammenfassung

"Nachhaltige Entwicklung" ist eine Entwicklung, die die Bedürfnisse der Gegenwart befriedigt, ohne zu gefährden, dass zukünftige Generationen ihre Bedürfnisse befriedigen können (Brundlandt-Kommission, 1987). Ausgehend von dem Inhalt dieses Begriffes wird die Notwendigkeit des Einsatzes von Nebenprodukten aus der Lebensmittelindustrie in der Fütterung landwirtschaftlicher Nutztiere als eine wesentliche Maßnahme zum Schließen biologischer Stoffkreisläufe angesehen. Auf die Notwendigkeit des Einsatzes entsprechender Aufbereitungsverfahren zur Erlangung hochwertiger Futtermittel wird hingewiesen.
